What are LEDs?
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are electronic devices that light up when current moves through them. No filament, no gas, no mercury. While colored LEDs were invented in the 1960s, the technology to create white light from LEDs didn’t exist until the 1990s. LEDs are now used in applications as varied as digital displays, airport runways, horticulture lamps, municipal streetlights, and increasingly, home and business lighting.
